The word internet is a connection of different computers. It is also a network that connect millions of computers in a given geographical areas. The computers are connected to the huge network of telecommunication links. The Internet allows the user to access the whole resources of data and information stored at different sites. The communication connects that interconnect each host computer use a common method of transmission known as TC/IP which stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. Each computer connected can act as a host. It’s host computer provides information for each people to access.

The term information superhighway refers to the process of integration computer networks into a worldwide network that makes best use of technology such as fiber optic data communication links. The German term infonbalu is sometimes used. The Internet is the position that has current been reached in this process.

How The Network Works

  1. TCP/IP: Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. It is the set of rules used by the Internet.
  2. WEB BROWSER : it is software design to use data of one specific type e.g. a word processor will red and change files either created using that word processor or imported into the word processor Internet.
  3. HYPERTEXT MARK-UP LANGUAGE: It was developed by T.N Berners-Lee and it is the basis of the web. “Hypertext” means that the information can include links.

Resources Of Internet

  1. Mailing List: Most direct way of addressing questions or opening a technology discussion to the concentrated from BSD audiences. It is a collection of nodes and addresses used by an individual or an organization to send materials to multiple recipients. The term is often extended to the people subscribed to such a list. So the group of subscribers is referred to as the “mailing list” or “list”.

Types of Mailing List

  1. Announcement List: it is a closer to original sense, where a “mailing list” of people was used as a recipient of newsletters, periodicals or advertising.
  2. Discussion List: This allows members to post their own items when they broadcast to all of the other mailing list members.
  3. Usenet: It is a worldwide distributed Internet discussion system. It is developed from the general purpose U.U.C.P architecture of the same name. It resembles a bulletin board system BBS in many respects and is the precursor to the various internet forums that are widely used today. It is regarded as a hybrid between email and web forums.
  4. An Email Address : it identities an email bore to which email messages are delivered. An example formate of an E-mail address is lewis@example.net (which is read as Lewis at example dot net).

There are Different Email Address Formats:

Overview: Transport of email across the Internet uses the simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP), which is defined in internet standard RFC 5321 and RFC 5322, while mail boxes are most often accessed with the Post Office Protocol (POP) and the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP). Email address, such as jsmith@example.com has two parts. The parts before the @ sign is the local part which is often the username of the user or recipient (jsmith) and the part of the @ sign is the domain name of which the message will be sent (example.com). The local part of an email address is defined to be plaque to intermediate mail relay system except (the final mail bore host) for example it must not be assumed to case-insensitive.

The domain name uses the Domain name system (DNS), which is distributed database. A server queries the DNS for any mail exchange records to find the hostname of a designated Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) for that addresses. A simple email address may boxes. Email aliases, electronic mailing list, sub-addressing and catch-all addresses, are common patterns for achieving such results. Multiple email addresses may point to the save mail box. The addresses found in the header fields to an email messages are not the ones used by S.M.T.P servers to deliver the message. Server uses the so-called message envelope to route mail while envelope and header addresses may be equal, fraud email addresses are often seen in spam.

Earlier form of email addresses included the somewhat verbose notation required by X 400 and the UUCP “bang path” notation, in which the address was given in the form of a sequence of computers through which the message be relayed.

The local part of the email address may use any of the ASCII characters.

  1. uppercase and lowercase English letters (a-z, A-Z).
  2. Digits 0 – 9
  3. Characters !, #,&,*,+,-,=,?, {/,~(dot, period, full stop).

An email address is generally recognized as having two part joined which an @ sign. This in itself is a basic form of validation. Many mail servers adopt very relaxed validation that allows and handles email addresses that are disallowed according to the RFC and instead verify the email address against relevant system such as DNS for domain part or using callback. Disposable email addresses include run bore (plus and hyphen), Google mail (plus), yahoo mail plus (hyphen).

World Wide Web Server Service

www (wez) invented by Tim Barnes-Lee commonly known as “d-web” is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the internet, a web browser. In a view web pages many contain tests, images, videos, and other MM and navigate between them via hyperlinks. Roberts proposed in 1990 to use “hypertext” to link as a web of nodes in which the user can browse at will and publicly introduced project in December.

The word “Browsing ” or “Surfing” are used to describe the process of looking at document, websites, and web pages on the Internet. As mentioned earlier, you will need to use a web browser that is supplied with the most pc’s, but there are alternative (some say better) solution such as firebox and opera. Browsing behavior differs from person to person, to access a website you can either type the domain name (he website address-more later) of the websites directly into the address bar or you can use a search engine to search for the site using the business name or some pother keywords that you know can be found on the website.

Searching The Internet

If the website you are seeking is that of a florist called fiore in Philadelphia, this will probably be specific enough to find what you are searching for. However many people do not get the best from the Internet because they don’t know how to search properly. For example, let say you are looking for information about buying a car, you may decide to enter “buying a car” in the Google search window. At the time of writing this brings up almost 45 millions results. Let’s say you wanted to narrow that down, one way of doing this would be put quotation marks round the search term thus, ‘buying a hose’, this reduces the results to about 2 millions.

What this does is display only result where these three words are found together ans in the order submitted. In the first search the results will be for websites where the three words appear anywhere on the page. This is just an example of many techniques that can be a search engine. Google and other search engines provide detailed information on how they should be used to the best advantage. It is important that small business maximize their productive time and much of today’s research is carried out online so it is worth taking the time to learn the tricks of searching.
